Performing with AMP
Everyone who wants to perform with us is very welcome. We will be interested in your past experience (if any) and our Musical Director will want to listen to your voice to get to know your range for chorus work. Same goes for your dance ability (or none yet!) with our Dance Director.
Your membership fee is made as a donation and can vary but is generally around £100 over the year to help us cover production costs such as your costumes. If you wish to take away a script (score/libretto) to use between rehearsals we ask for £10 which covers the cost of hiring. Such costs are paid as soon as possible after the start of rehearsals but arrangements can be made, during any Monday rehearsals, to pay over a number of weeks preferably by BACS or Direct Debit (form available on request). Dues should all be paid by 6 weeks before a show – and if you audition for a principal role, the performing fee is needed before the audition.
We invite all members to make suggestions for shows to perform in coming years and to participate in shortlisting and selecting material.
When we begin rehearsals, we learn some of the music and focus on numbers that will be used to audition for principal characters. Auditions are usually held a few weeks into rehearsals and casting of principal roles is announced shortly afterwards. Decisions are taken by the Artistic Director/Dance Director and Musical Director, with the involvement of the AMP Trustees.
AMP is very much an “ensemble” company and every participant is equally valued.
Performers are expected to attend as many rehearsals as possible and to give plenty of notice of unavoidable absences.
